This chapter explains a broad sense of the nature of cognitive semantics as an approach to conceptual structure and linguistic meaning. It considers four central assumptions of cognitive semantics. First, a fundamental concern for cognitive semanticists is the nature of the relationship between conceptual structure and the external world of sensory experience.

Semantics as the Basis of Advanced Cognitive Computing Industry It examines the role of semantic technologies within the larger Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology ecosystem, with the aim of raising awareness of different solution approaches. However, if corpus linguistics argues convinc-ingly for a more phraseological approach to meaning – beyond what is traditionally known as idioms and collocations – then this supports the im-portance of larger units of translation and should be reflected in translation semantics. As an ontological framework for a cognitive semantics, I introduce the notion of a conceptual space and show how such spaces can be used as a basis for a cognitive semantics. In the final sections, it will be argued that this kind of semantics is useful for understanding metaphors and prototype effects of … Historical Background.
